Fruit flies are the natural enemy of a tiny apartment filled with humidity loving ferns. I once lost a bowl of peaches to a swarm that seemed to appear out of thin air.
That is why I am currently obsessed with the LIBKEN metal bowl from Amazon. At nineteen dollars, it is cheap insurance against airborne pests.
The mesh lid acts like a tiny greenhouse dome, but instead of encouraging mold, it keeps the fruit fly population at zero. It is elegantly utilitarian.
The black metal finish blends in perfectly with my collection of terra cotta pots. I do not have to worry about my wandering ivy vines getting tangled in the produce, either.
It is a solid, no nonsense structure that keeps my bananas safe from the local insect population. It is essentially a cage for your snacks, which is honestly the vibe I am going for in this jungle of mine.
Things here have a tendency to be eaten by bugs or claimed by stray monstera roots. Having a secure, breathable vessel for my apples is a quiet, domestic luxury.
It sits on my kitchen counter like a piece of minimalist art. Maybe it is just a bowl, but in this life, you have to celebrate the small victories where you can find them.
